Ganoderma to fight fibromyalgia

Myalgia means “muscle pain.”.

Fibromyalgia means “pain in muscles and tendons.”

The FER (Spanish Rheumatology Foundation) defines it as follows:

<< It is characterized by generalized musculoskeletal pain and painful sensation to the pressure in specific points (painful points). This pain is similar to that originating in the joints, but it is not an articular disease >>.

Which means that people with fibromyalgia have an abnormal perception of pain. Hence, it is considered a syndrome without a cure since those who suffer from it receive painful stimuli that normally are not.

Having no cure, the goal of treatment is to mitigate pain and treat symptoms to improve the quality of life of patients who suffer from it.

Knowing the origin of this syndrome is paramount, since the association of fibromyalgia with psychological disorders that lead to depression and anxiety is very frequent.

This chronic syndrome is the great unknown in the health sector [1]. But as this thesis says in its conclusion (making reference to Hippocrates) it is very different to know to believe that one knows. And science consists in knowing. That is why it is so important to listen to these patients and to know well the origin to find the best treatment

Scientific studies.

<< A total of 12 members of the Association of Fibromyalgia of Salamanca (Afibrosal) have participated a few days ago in a study on the benefits for this disease of the mushroom known as reishi, in the charge of young researchers of the Faculty of Science and Sports of the University of Extremadura and the Chair of Mycology of the University of Valladolid, of the Palencia Campus >>.

News like this published in indicates that the consumption of Ganoderma lucidum could be effective for:

  • Alleviating pain
  • Increasing the quality and, therefore, the amount of sleep.
  • Favoring physical resistance.
  • Avoiding chronic fatigue.

Luckily, there are more and more findings that relate to the fungus Ganoderma lucidum with fibromyalgia [1], and that allow us to verify, as shown by the FInformative Association of Fibromyalgia on its website, through this clinical trial conducted to seventy people with fibromyalgia, that reishi (also known by this name) decreases disability caused by fibromyalgia [2] and improves sleep quality, aerobic endurance [3] and lower limb flexibility. In addition to feeling less pain and notice an improvement in the symptoms of depression [4]

Specifically, the results showed that patients with fibromyalgia after Ganoderma consumption noticed the following improvements:

  • Better ability to perform daily tasks and work.
  • Better quality of sleep.
  • Increase in the degree of happiness.
  • Physical improvement.
  • Increase of aerobic resistance.
  • Greater speed when walking.
  • Greater flexibility in lower limbs.
  • Less perception of pain.
